freeiPods.com, a scam? Get The Smelling Salts.

Okay, so freeiPods.com might not qualify entirely as a scam. They have been sending out free iPods to people who manage to complete the offer and are able to get five friends to do complete the offers as well, but the whole thing smacks of scamonella. If you feel the same, you aren’t alone.

Internet privacy certifier TRUSTe rarely asks companies to remove their privacy seal of approval, but it has of Gratis Networks, the company behind FreeiPods.com. TRUSTe is concerned that the company may have “violated promises involving the protection of children’s information and changed how it managed the private information of its customers without adequately notifying them.”

Of course, the avalanche of spam users receive after signing up for one of Gratis Networks’ offers doesn’t help, but this is the first time in two years that TRUSTe has taken this type of action, so it have been something an order of magnatude greater than selling their email list.

You’d be better off just buying something else.
