BeatPort: Log On. Get Down.
February 16th, 2005 | by Mike G |https://www.beatport.com/beatport.php
Longing for your hard to find electronica? Beatport is for you– Like iTunes and Napster Beatport offers club tracks for the DJ set without any form of DRM to slow you down. Buy the music and do what you will.
There are thousands of tracks from hundreds of labels and DJs in a dozen categories including House, Trance, Drum & Bass, Chill Out and more. It doesn’t have the breadth of the bigger download sites, but give it time.
There are lots of undiscovered gems on the site, but at a price. Most tracks sell for $1.50, some as high as $2.00

$2 a track is nothing to complain about. I usually pay $10-$15 for records that only have 2 tracks on them, and I have no problem with that. They only press a few thousand of these records, and most underground labels and producers barely make a profit at all if not losing money on most releases, so its mainly a labor of love.

I’ve actually had more luck at a similar site over in the UK: http://www.trackitdown.net
Lower tech site, but has more varied selection of drum and bass (which is all I spin nowadays).

Was pleased to see Beatport on Plastic’s Quicklinks. My label’s started to use them exclusively for distribution.
They are exceedingly fair, courteous, accomodating, and are very willing to work with artists. And the money ain’t bad either.
No plugs within, you can find our stuff if you like. More than anything, support Beatport and end the ITunes monopoly!
