Why Do We Twitter?

University of Maryland’s Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Departments published a paper entitled

Why We Twitter: Understanding Microblogging Usage and Communities. Lots of interesting data and analysis in the paper, but one of the things that caught my eye was the above graph–appearing toward the end of the paper–showing Robert Scoble acting as a nexus for otherwise unconnected communities of users.
